A pre-emptive post about edm music copyright….
Someone said “hey i cant find that edm music dj mix you put up on your site on google anymore” Well, first thanks for looking and keep listening Dave! So i turned to the Search engines and sure enough my site was “google slapped for “alleged” copyright infingement. GOOGLE SLAPPED. Labeled as removed…
I would like to go Down on record as stating
“I have not received OFFICIAL electronic communication from either the Record Label/Labels in Question or Google regarding the matter. I have taken the necessary steps to remove all content that may deemed as an infringement of copyright.” (This is a pre-emptive statement prior to any legal “actual” notice)
It is unfortunate that i have had to removed links to external sources, mixes and remixes and experimental files from my site. But Good news i will be uploading my content to a 3rd party site where it will get screened properly and hopefully given the thumbs up.
However, I would like to give credit and reference to any artist i have mentioned or included in any work on this site.
The blurred lines of copyright infringement can confusing to an artist so anyone reading this should be very mindful of the music they put on their websites. And please make full use of the third party sites available to make you music presence heard on the WWW.
As For the Google slapping , well they appear to be monopolizing the search engines, and although very insightful with statistical data, i find some of the lesser known search engines throw back a better variety in results and do so without the need to plot, track and spy on anyone using them. Google are great – but if they penalize a site for any variety of reasons, they really should consider removing any penalties in the same swift manner that they implement de-indexing or other action they took in the first instance.
The EDM music community has always been my friend, and sharing and listening leads to promotion, market provocation and sales. If i didn’t listen to other peoples works……OH I COULDNT LIVE WITHOUT MUSIC…I couldn’t spread the word and promote that artists work to friends for their enjoyment.
Also while i have been throwing works out there i have realized that the screening tech they use on some sites have blocked or removed my work even though it is undoubtably original. However often after a few days they realize their error and allow it.
As a footnote. I was going through some of my own work, that i produced 25 years ago and if i’m honest there are some songs i hear where the artists that have (probably unknowingly) copied my work years after the fact have made money from what i see as being my intellectual property. Should i be challenging them for infringement? No – Why? Little fish Big Pond!
