Producing Electronic Dance Music Is Not Easy.
I’ve been driving around Grand Rapids listening to Electronic Dance Music and Deep House and Trance DJ sets on stations on my radio (a few of which i will list later) on my daily drop off to the childminders etc.
I am noticing as a writer working on producing a musical masterpiece *, Deciding how you structure your Song can vary in so many ways. Especially in more radio friendly world of EDM music. I will listen to Siriusxm 51 and 52, BPM and Electric Area respectfully and wsnx. And to write a good dance track do i start with the beat, bass, melody, pad or vocals or other……conundrum for me and endless possibilites.
Having written initially 3 songs, after playing them and recording them into my sound prodution software, I faced something i have never encountered as a musician before…..After listening to all the individual audio on all the Tracks on those 3 songs there is enough hooks, licks, beats, for producing 6 songs!
I might enable comments on this post because i would like to Know if Songwriters write the lyrics and melody first or last or in the middle? Where do you come to these decisions!
In the world of EDM ( Electronic Dance Music my mum didn’t know ! ), Trance, House, and those genres of the music Industry having these choices is an advantage to the artist. In Marketing terms i call it 6 song EP out of 1 song! Exponentially my project has gone from 3 to 36 songs in just a month or two!
ADJHD I’m sure it is common among DJ’s.
Hyperactivity has definately been one of my trademarks working as a DJ Hyping up the crowd, lifting them up bringing them down and picking it all back up again round and round with the sound..WOW love it <3.
When Writing and Producing however this is not so good THE DECK ARE A DISTRACTION….I was quite blown away with a messed up sound i have been working with for a track and to be honest it was getting a bit much! It was a synth operator malfunction that generated something freaky and new but after 4 hours kinda irritating. Suddenly i started sing into the mic an all time classic song – Feeling Good by Frank!
Next came some frantic sequencing on the Keyboard and some lyrical reworking as i wanted to slightly deviate from the original and add some subtle rhyming “alternative” vocal tracks that i’ve noticed and broken up in some of the musical posts. Obviously Changing a 50’s classic into a Big Room Dance Tune is a MAJOR DEVIATION from the original. Anyway That has progressed into something i’m starting to really love but at the same time in reality it really has to be some of the BEST Dance Music Produced for such a Huge Hit. At Least I have the Voice for it!
Oh and by the way, the comment on the picture about the beard…..i shaved off a few months worth today and killed my second bathroom sink! That is just one of my electro projects i have going on….
